Women's World Cup!

So as you can see from the last post, it had been a pretty quiet week thus far. Earlier, Cisco had asked me about going to Wolfsburg (about an hour away) to see America play Sweden in the Women's World Cup. I wanted to go, but his other friends were being kinda wishy washy so I wasn't sure if we'd actually manage. Tommy is actually from Wolfsburg and works there now (he's got a real grown up job with a suit and tie haha) so when I saw him on Saturday I mentioned the idea to him. He said I'd be welcome to stay at his place if I ended up coming so I promised to let him know if it worked out.

Wednesday came and still no resolution. Cisco's friends had bailed so I texted Tommy and said the plan was off. Work continued as usual-we're preparing for this big event called Rundgang, so there's a lot of work to do. My boss, Verena, took me to visit the venue we're going to be at, and then afterwards we viewed the exhibition and took down the names of photography students who could be eligible for this big prize we're giving out soon. We also met some students and professors and it was all around pretty cool. Art universities are funny...there's paint and remnants of art supplies everywhere.

the venue-actually it's the Fine Arts building for the university!

After we wrapped up, Verena let me go home. I went back to the flat and wasn't doing much-playing on Facebook, listening to music, when Tommy texted me. Apparently his dad got two free tickets to the game that night and offered them to him, and he thought of me. I called him, and he said if I hopped on the next train I could be there and we could go to the game. I was like, sure, why not? Threw some PJs, a change of clothes, and my toothbrush in a backpack and hopped on the S Bahn and headed to the main train station. There was a slight delay, but within an hour I was in Wolfsburg and Tommy was waiting on the platform with a beer in hand. We caught the shuttle to the stadium (which is like right next to the train station) and went inside.

Wolfsburg is really only there because it's the HQ of VW. So naturally I had to take a picture :)

Since my train was delayed we were about 15 minutes late, and the Swedish team had already scored one point. We found our seats-they were amazing! We were right there at the front-you could hear the players shouting to each other. I wished I had some American gear, but I did remember to dress in red, white and blue before jetting out the door. We cheered on the Americans, and even though the girls got a goal in, at halftime it was 1-1. We took a break, got another beer, and met Tommy's coworker and his girlfriend. Then back to the game!
Thanks, Tommy! :D

The Swedish team scored another goal...it wasn't looking good, especially since the game was nearly done. The Americans had a few good plays but in the end, the lost. Sweden 2, America 1. Oh well. It was still a really cool game.

Two of the swedish players came up to say hey to these little girls...they went nuts!

After the game, Tommy and I walked back to his apartment (which is very cute, I'm jealous) and crashed. I didn't realize how tired I was! Then up bright and early this morning-we walked to his work and then I walked the rest of the way to the train station and caught the 8:34 train back to Berlin-and made it to work only 7 minutes late! :) But I had an awesome time for such a short trip. So glad Tommy called me and I got to see the World Cup!

anyway, lots of stuff to do at work today, then after work I had to go to an art exhibit on Fukushima and now at home blogging. Everything's good! :)
